A full-length medical sheepskin: two genuine pelts sewn end to end, shorn to a dense 1 inch pile, that cushion shoulders, hips, tailbone and heels in one piece for anyone on long bed rest or recovering in bed.
Full-length relief for pressure points
- Dense, shorn wool cushions shoulders, hips, tailbone and heels in one piece and spreads body weight to relieve pressure points during long bed rest or recovery.
- Helps prevent pressure sores, as medical sheepskin has for generations.
- “Medical sheepskin” is the traditional name for this dense, shorn grade. It is a natural comfort aid, not a certified medical device.
Shorn to 1 inch
Medical sheepskin is shorn to 1 inch for care support. It is not the long, loose wool of a decorative sheepskin rug, and it won’t feel like a thick, fluffy cushion. If you want that look, see our sheepskin rugs. If you want breathable, supportive padding under a person who spends hours in one position, this is the one.
Size
About 25 inches across at the widest point and 82 inches long, so it runs the full length of a twin, full or queen mattress under one person. It is not a full-width mattress pad. For a wheelchair or recliner, the Single Pelt Medical Sheepskin, about 25 x 41 inches, is the better fit.
Genuine lambskin, chrome-free tanned, odor free
- Two of our single pelts are joined with a sewn seam across the middle.
- Each has a supple, natural leather back, not a woven fabric backing, and edges that follow the animal’s shape.
- The leather is tanned chrome-free (independent lab test: no chromium detected), and the pelt arrives odor free.
Breathable wool
Wool fibers wick moisture away from the skin and let air move, so the resting surface stays drier than foam or synthetic fleece. Wool is also a natural insulator, so it feels warm. That’s a comfort in a cool room, but if your loved one runs hot, use it in an air-conditioned room or under a light cotton sheet. The pressure relief works either way. Tuck it under the fitted sheet to hold it in place.
Easy care
- Shake it out and brush the wool between cleanings.
- Spot clean with a damp cloth and a little Outback Gold Wool Wash, dry clean, or machine wash on gentle in cool water and lay flat to dry.
