Outback Gold Wool Wash is built around one idea: most detergents strip lanolin, so a wool wash should put it back. Most detergents promoting wool care don't include lanolin, or they include cleansers that actually destroy protein fibers. Lanolin is the natural oil in a sheep's fleece. It is what keeps wool soft, springy and water-resistant. Our formula uses plant-derived cleansers to lift soil, then leaves lanolin, aloe vera, castor oil and coconut oil behind to condition the fiber. Think of it as a wool wash, conditioner and softener in one bottle.
The pH-neutral, enzyme-free formula is safe for protein fibers, including wool, cashmere, alpaca, mohair, angora, silk and sheepskin, and it works just as well on cotton, bamboo and blends. No SLS, no enzymes, no bleach, no phosphates, no formaldehyde. Use it as a cashmere shampoo, a silk wash, a merino base-layer detergent, a sheepskin rug cleaner, or a no-rinse wool wash for knitting blocking.
How much to use: HE machine, 1/2 to 1 oz (1 to 2 tablespoons) per load. Standard machine, 2 oz (1/4 cup). Hand wash, 1/2 to 1 teaspoon per gallon of water. Sheepskin rugs, 2 oz per skin, soaked 15 to 30 minutes. Rinsing is optional. Low-sudsing by design. This 64 oz half gallon holds four times our 16 oz bottle, about 64 to 128 HE loads, and is handy for refilling a 16 oz bottle.
Machine wash on a gentle cycle with no agitation in cool water, hand wash, or soak. No rinse is needed for spot cleaning or blocking.

- Half gallon, same formula as our 16 oz: 64 fl oz, four times the 16 oz bottle, in a sturdy screw-top jug. Refill your bottle or keep it in the laundry room. How much to use: HE machine 1/2 to 1 oz (1 to 2 tbsp) per load. Standard machine 2 oz (1/4 cup). Hand wash 1/2 to 1 tsp per gallon of water. Sheepskin rug 2 oz per skin, soak 15-30 minutes.
