This Classic New Zealand Lambskin baby care rug has been ethically sourced from accredited farms in Australia and New Zealand where the sheep are raised in the wide open, grassy pastures by farmers that adhere to the regulations and codes for the ethical treatment of animals set by the Animal Welfare Act. These regulations ensure that animals have sufficient food and water; adequate shelter; the opportunity to display normal patterns of behavior; appropriate physical handling; protection from and rapid diagnosis of injury and disease. Farmers must meet an animal’s physical, health, and behavioral needs, and must alleviate pain or distress.
The pelts are processed according to strict quality, environmental, and safety standards, using tanning techniques that are approached like a craft.
The tanning facility maintains the following certifications: Woolmark® (providing assurance of the highest quality, representing pioneering excellence and innovation from farm to finished product), Intertek® (ensures products meet quality, health, environmental, safety, and social accountability standards), Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 (independently tested and guaranteed to be free of toxic dyes, nickel, formaldehyde, and numerous harmful chemicals, even if they are not yet legally regulated), membership in Sedex® (annual audits by SMETA to verify compliance with responsible supply chain activities, including labour rights, health & safety, the environment and business ethics).
